About the event
Join us for a Weld Australia NSW/ACT State Committee
face-to-face event, welcoming both members and non-members from the welding
industry.
The Welding Fume Mitigation and Control Event provides for both a presentation
(Lecture) and demonstration of equipment and appliances which provide welder
protection from various fumes resulting from fabrication and manufacturing.
It's an opportunity for company owners, their managers, fabricators, welders as
well as TAFE fabrication and welding trainers and WA members (Weld Engineers,
Welding Inspectors, Supervisors and Corporate members) to interact (hands on)
with such items as on-gun fume extraction, hooded capture extraction, next
generation welding helmets with powered air purifying respirator and portable
fume extraction units and proven gases which minimises fumes during the welding
operation in line with recent changes to legislation to the immediate reduction
in the workplace exposure standard for welding fumes.
On the night of the presentation it will begin at the
lecture theatre in building L with guest speaker Dr. Cornelius Van Niekerk from
Weld Australia who will talk for a short period on the topic of Welding Fume
Mitigation and Control and the recent changes to the legislation to the
immediate reduction in the workplace exposure standard for welding fumes from
an 8-hour time weighted average (TWA) of 5 mg/m3 to 1 mg/m3. Also each
exhibitor will be given a ten minute slot to present and speak about their product
and how it relates to the standard. The audience will be able to ask questions
at the end of the talk and presenters will also have the opportunity to speak
and explain how their equipment and or appliances can assist with fume
minimisation. At the end of the lecture presentation all participants will move
to the welding workshop in building D for the exhibit and practical
demonstration of equipment and products where presenters will have access to
two large welding demonstration bays and a powered open workshop area. The
demonstration of thermic cutting will take place immediately outside building D
in a courtyard area to reduce the risk of any incident. Following the
completion of the various demonstrations the participants will return to
building L, Lecture Hall for finger food and drinks [beer and wine] which I am
currently in the process of arranging for the catering to be supplied by the
hospitality section of the college. The light meal will obviously give
opportunity for networking and discussion.
